Hi Clayton,

1. The actual processes are well quoted in the site that Bhakta has cited. But you need not feel lost at all.

2. There is another refuge, deeper and more abstract than even your own home. It is your heart. If you feel the devotion there. then you need nothing more. The entire Earth is your Mandir, the sky is your canopy, the entire creation is your deity. You need nothing more!

The temple is part of creation, is it not?

3. Why do you need any mantra?
Why do you even need Sanskrit?
Please understand, I am not decrying Sanskrit. It is indeed the language of the Gods!

And I should know, as a dvija.

And still I ask, why do you need Sanskrit?

If Brahman is all, then why should he/she/it limit itself to one human language, however perfect?

If you have devotion in your heart, then all you need to say is
Mother, eat this! Mother wear this! Mother take this!

That's all Ramakrishna Paramahansa did!

If that's all you can do, you would be in excellent company!

And if you cannot, then no amount of learning in Sanskrit or otherwise will help you.
