From Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia:

The Four Noble Truths:

(4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation.

Vinaire’s Comments:

(a) This is a general summary of what needs to be done.

(b) However, how to do it was left to the individual.

(c) Only few could accomplish it on their own, as in any other religion.

(d) This weakness has now been remedied in Scientology, which is based on Vedas, and which is an extension of Buddhism.

So Scientology now corrects Buddhism and takes away the nihilistic beginning and gives it a vedantic end......
and it doesnt stop there...It even gives vedanta a Scientology end....In the end only Scientology remains....and Scientology is re-absorbed into christianity and so we all have a chance to dance with jesus in a heavenly Xmas...
The world stands redeemed.
There is a song in nursery I used to recite ..." chote se motar ke under( inside) aa bhaite hain bhalu bandar" " Khaiten hain motar teja chalow..Thodi se thendi hawa khilaow."
What is this motarcar..it is Spirituality... and the Bhalus - american postmodern Scientologist and Bandars...I leave that to your imagination...
And together they are ready to take the world for a ride.....

Winning gives birth to hostility.
Losing, one lies down in pain.
The calmed lie down with ease,
having set winning & losing aside.

I think the Buddhist who made up this quote was either a dumb fellow or a very cunning one.
we know from Buddhist history. that even Buddha criticized views of other sects...those included are jains and Hindus as well as others.
all major Buddhist text celebrate the victory of the Buddha and the Buddhist over the Hindus and their teachers....take up any text and you will find it is filled with resentment and subtle propaganda against others.
they are hostile to their core..and here vinaire is quoting from the most subtle form of hostility one finds in religious text.
so why then quote this quote.
what reasons to quote.
really cunning these Buddhist are. hoodwinking the Hindus and the world..like Christians.
I would suggest viniere to highlight the better and spiritual exercises ( Yoga, meditation and metaphysics) from their test…. rather then quotes that undoes Itself.

Life is swept along,
next-to-nothing its span.
For one swept to old age
no shelters exist.
Perceiving this danger in death,
one should drop the world's bait
and look for peace.

The past should not be followed after
and the future not desired;
what is past is dead and gone
and the future is yet to come.

Were there a mountain all made of gold,
doubled that would not be enough
to satisfy a single man:
know this and live accordingly.

If one, longing for sensual pleasure,
achieves it, yes, he's enraptured at heart.
The mortal gets what he wants.
But if for that person -- longing, desiring --
the pleasures diminish,
he's shattered, as if shot with an arrow.

Sutta Nipata IV, 1

All tremble at punishment.
Life is dear to all.
Put yourself in the place of others;
kill none nor have another killed.

One is not low because of birth
nor does birth make one holy.
Deeds alone make one low,
deeds alone make one holy.

Sutta Nipata 136

So, there was casteism at the time of Buddha 2500 years ago! Very interesting.
